It is a working island with towns, farms and vineyards, known above all for thermal water — the spa gardens at Negombo and Poseidon are the main draw, along with Castello Aragonese, a fortress on its own rocky islet reached by a causeway. The beaches are real beaches rather than rock platforms, and prices across the board are noticeably gentler than Capri.
What it lacks is the postcard drama: no Faraglioni, no Piazzetta, no queue of yachts. People who love Ischia love it precisely for that.
