Salerno Port — Positano Photo Stop — Sorrento & Limoncello — Pompeii — Back by Evening
Three of Campania's biggest names in a single day, driven not marched: an air-conditioned minibus from the Salerno cruise port, a driver-host with live commentary, a postcard photo stop above Positano, two hours of free time and limoncello in Sorrento, and two hours inside the Pompeii ruins. ★4.6 across 292 verified bookings, run by Di Sarno Car Service.

Most visitors to Salerno have to choose: the Amalfi Coast, or Pompeii. This tour refuses to choose — it stitches a Positano panorama, free time and limoncello in Sorrento, and two hours in the ruins into one seamless day, with a driver-host handling the SS163 hairpins and the parking. At $82 it undercuts the classic three-town coast trip by $21, and swaps Amalfi and Ravello for Sorrento and the world's most famous archaeological site. ★4.6 across 292 verified bookings, with the driver-guides earning a 4.8.
Positano arrives first, and honestly — it arrives from above. The van pulls in at a famous terrace overlooking the cascade of pastel houses pouring down to the sea, you get roughly fifteen minutes for the postcard, and then you roll on. It's the least hands-on stop of the three; reviewers who expected to wander the boutiques note it's "a quick picture stop, really". Manage that expectation and the view alone earns its place on the itinerary.
Sorrento is where the day slows down. Two hours of free time is enough to lose yourself in the citrus-scented lanes, sit down for a proper lunch, browse the artisan shops, and taste limoncello at a traditional factory — the drink that this coast built its reputation on. It's flat, walkable and easy on the legs, the natural lunch window before the afternoon's history lesson, and the stop most people wish ran even longer.
Then the van drops toward Pompeii, and the register changes entirely. Two hours inside the ruins — visit and free time — to walk streets rutted by cart wheels, stand in front of two-thousand-year-old frescoes, and read a city that stopped mid-sentence when Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. A licensed guide is an option worth taking on your first visit; without it, the audioguide fills in, and the scale of the place does much of the talking on its own.
Honest answer: this is the "see it all" pick — coast and ruins in one day. Trade it for the classic Amalfi trio if you'd rather walk three coast towns, or go Pompeii-only if the ruins are the whole point.

Pulled from 292 reviews and the operator's fine print — plus the coast-road wisdom nobody tells you.
Two hundred and ninety-two reviews, one refrain: the driver-host makes the day. People name them — Ghazal, Angelo, Enzo, Rosita, Selene — and the guide sub-score (4.8) sits well above the overall rating. Reviewers praise hosts who "handled those hairpin turns and tiny parking areas like an absolute pro" and kept the group on time across three very different stops. For a day that covers this much ground, that steady hand is the product.
The honest caveats surface too, and they cluster on two points. First, Positano is genuinely just a photo stop — "a quick picture stop, really", as one reviewer put it — so anyone dreaming of wandering its lanes should read that twice. Second, Pompeii entry isn't included: the traveller who booked ruins tickets through a separate service called the result "a complete disaster" and urges you to buy through the tour instead. A couple more ask that entry fees be folded into the price up front — fair, but forewarned is forearmed.
Who should pick a different door: travellers set on actually walking three coast towns (book the Positano, Amalfi & Ravello group tour instead — it trades Sorrento and ruins for hilltop Ravello), and volcano completists, who should add the crater with the Vesuvius & Pompeii combo. If ruins are the whole reason you came, the Pompeii-only guided walk with hotel pickup goes deeper. For everyone else — especially cruise guests wanting coast and history in one shot — this is the most efficient day on the menu.
Great experience for the money. Our amazing guide Ghazal was helpful and knowledgeable, and man-of-steel driver Alfredo handled those hairpin turns and tiny parking areas like an absolute pro. Photo ops on the Amalfi Coast, plenty of food and shopping time in Sorrento, and a whirlwind visit to Pompeii. Over double the cost through the cruise ship, so a great price — only complaint: if you're over 6 ft the shuttle is a tight squeeze.
One of the most memorable trips for us! Our guide Angelo did a fabulous job driving and explaining the unique characteristics of each town. A scenic and breathtaking drive from beginning to end. Di Sarno Car Service put together a great itinerary with the perfect amount of time in each town — highly recommend.
I recommend this tour whole-heartedly. Davide was incredible — he even organised a surprise cake for my son's birthday. The sights are amazing. We got lost in Pompeii and he came to collect us; forever grateful. More time needed in Pompeii, though!
Rosita was the best! We loved the limoncello tasting, Naples and Pompeii, and the drive was beautiful. It would be helpful if you included the price of the entrance fees into Pompeii.
A great way to see many highlights of Naples, the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii. Sorrento was a beautiful charming town where we had lunch. Positano was stunning, but only a quick picture stop really. Pompeii was so impressive — a city frozen in time. We booked our Pompeii tickets with a separate service and that was a disaster; book through the tour company instead. Very well organised and accommodating.
The trip was wonderful. Enzo was an excellent driver and tour guide — he gave us a complete tour, explaining many details about the area. A wonderful experience!

Yes — it runs from both Naples and Salerno, with a Salerno pickup at the cruise port (Molo Manfredi). It's a popular full-day option for travellers based in Salerno or arriving by ship who want the coast and Pompeii in one go.
Positano is a scenic photo stop of about 15 minutes from a terrace overlook — you get the famous cliffside panorama without walking down to the beach. If strolling Positano's lanes is a priority, choose a coast tour that includes free time there instead.
No — archaeological entry is not included in the base price, but you can add it through the operator when booking. Reviewers strongly advise buying Pompeii tickets through the tour rather than a separate service, which several found caused problems at the gate.
There's a guided Pompeii option, but it needs a minimum number of participants. If that minimum isn't reached, an audioguide is provided instead. On a first visit the live licensed guide is worth choosing where available.
No — lunch is at your own expense, most naturally during the roughly two hours of free time in Sorrento. A limoncello tasting and a bottle of water per guest are included; budget around €20–35 for a coastal lunch.
You can reserve now and pay later. The tour runs on a minimum-participant basis: if too few people book your date, the operator may cancel and offer an alternative date or a full refund, usually confirmed about 24 hours before departure.
Yes — the Salerno meeting point is at the cruise port, and reviewers repeatedly note it costs far less than the ship's own excursion. Give your ship's name when booking and confirm pickup timing with the operator if your schedule is tight.
This tour pairs a Positano photo stop and Sorrento with the ruins of Pompeii. If you'd rather walk three coast towns including hilltop Ravello, the Positano, Amalfi & Ravello group tour ($103) swaps Sorrento and Pompeii for Amalfi and Ravello. Compare everything on the day-trips guide.
